Tundish Impact Pads are specially designed refractory components installed directly beneath the ladle shroud entry point inside the tundish. Their primary function is to absorb and dissipate the kinetic energy of the incoming molten steel stream, protecting the tundish working lining from excessive wear while promoting smoother and more controlled steel flow.
Without an impact pad, the high-velocity molten steel stream entering the tundish can cause severe refractory erosion, excessive turbulence, and increased slag entrainment. Tundish Impact Pads help distribute the incoming steel flow more evenly throughout the tundish, reducing turbulence and creating favorable flow conditions for inclusion flotation. Manufactured from high-strength refractory materials, they provide excellent resistance to thermal shock, erosion, and molten steel attack, ensuring reliable performance throughout casting campaigns.
